Diggin' Deeper Series 1-2-3-4 (Columbia 1996-1999)
The Roots of Acid Jazz

Described as Rare-Groove or Fusion in the 70s and reborn under definitions as Urban Grooves or Laidback Beats in the late 90s. This kind of music is not a style on it's own, it is the combination of many different styles. And that's what makes Acid-Jazz special, the possible variations are endless and many gems are still to be discovered.

These compilations are a very helpful guide into a world where musical boundaries don't exist. The featured artists where obviously influenced by Jazz, Funk, Soul, Pop, Latin, Disco, etc., but they managed to create their very own variations in a way that the music can't be described as one pure style anymore.

Unique remakes of famous songs are also scattered throughout the 4 volumes, like Miles Davis' "So What?" performed by George Benson or "Living for the City", the classic from Stevie Wonder, in a magical instrumental version by Ramsey Lewis.

Many of the selected tracks have been sampled or covered numerous times, we have to show respect and always remember the roots of today's music. Say Vegin, dec 99

My personal favorites are:
Volume 1
- Ramsey Lewis : Love for a Day
- Lonnie Liston Smith : In the Park
- Cedar Walton : Latin America
- Os Ipanemas : Consolacao
- Rodney Franklin : On the Path

Volume 2
- Freddie Hubbard : Midnight at the Oasis
- George Benson : I Remember Wes
- Eric Gale : Lookin' Good
- George Duke : Sugar Loaf Mountain
- Herbie Hancock : Just around the Corner
Volume 3
- Willie Bobo : Always There
- Webster Lewis : El Bobo
- Tom Scott : Sneakin' in the Back
- Maynard Ferguson : The Fly
- Herbie Hancock : Gentle Thoughts

Volume 4
- Hank Crawford : You've got it bad Girl
- Ahmad Jamal : M.A.S.H. Theme
- Ramsey Lewis : Salongo
- Astrud Gilberto : Brasilian Tapestry
- Stanley Turrentine : Vera Cruz
