On The Dancefloor
release : 2001
label : Farris Wheel
cat. nr. : 002
type : 12"
co-artists : Written, produced and mixed by Boo Williams, keyboards by GU
tracks:
- On The Dancefloor
- Classic Fingers
- Mystical Journey
Apparently Boo Wiliams has a new alias: Willie Griffin. Although it's possible he used it once or twice with a production for Relief records back in 1995, I'm not 100% sure about that. This is also the first Strictly Jaz Unit production for the relatively new Farris Wheel Recordings imprint, as far as I know.
This EP features some nice and mellow chicago-house. GU plays the keyboards on the first track, which has a minor 80s-groove touch caused by using the typical vocoder voice and also the best freaky Moog sounds I've heard in a very loooong time!
The two tracks on the b-side offer more gentle chicago sounds on the afterhours-tip. (SayVegin)

tracks:
- Untitled

- Untitled
These are 3 bootleg remixes from Donna Summer's Disco Classic "I Feel Love".  They have also been released as various other "white label" and "promo" versions. The rumour is that this is one of his earliest productions, going back as early as 1991, but it's never been "officially" released. So this would be the track that started his carreer as a producer!!
"I was making tracks to play off tapes at rave parties, and I just made it. Cajmere (head of Cajual) wanted it and put it out, and someone bootlegged it." (GU in Jockey Slut Interview)
The track on the A side is pure pumpin' disco-house with Donna Summer's vocals being cut up and placed randomly through the track. First track on the B side is somewhat smoother, more mellow house and this version is the closest to the original. Second track on the B side is standard jackin' disco-house with pretty nice synths and probably isn't even a remix of "I feel love". (Say Vegin)

- Musical High

'This record is not to be sold or distributed to the public.' Oops. Got it anyway. And glad too. The A-side 'Medones Thought' is also featured on the 'Future Parables of S.J.U.', but might come in handy for some wicked 'fazing'. But the B-track, the flip-side, dear music-lovers, is one hell of a G.U. track. Titled 'Musical High', I could think of no other way to describe, once again, a masterpiece of bouncing bass, moving melodies, great grooves and soulfull synths. Once again, a decent basis of true deep house, combined with the uncomparable virtuosity to add tweakin' moog themes that shiver down our spine. Once, again...a G.U. Classic ? Yes ? No ? Yes ? No ? Yes ! Yes !
Yes !
Fuckin' Yes !  Sorry. Got a bit carried away there. No matter. Lots of dirty language on the net anyway...

So, now let us take a look at the reasons how this track got:
a) on this Defender Test Pressing
b) not on the Future Parables album.

According to us, the reasons are :
a) that this is a test press for a Future Parables E.P. But why the E.P. AFTER the Album ? Beats us.
b) the people at Defender records are definitely boneheads. Alternative explanations are welcome but not considered. They are boneheads anyway. Nah. (Outspan)

Many Forms of House

cat. nr. : 059

The Soul Survivors

release : 1997
label : Pan
cat. nr. : 008
type : 12"
co-artists : Boo Williams (co-pruduction), Cei-Bei (vocals)
tracks:
- Get Down (PAN vocal)
- Soul power
- Get Down (SJU dub)
- Sickness of our people

Another ‘Soul Survivors’ product, not with Boo Williams this time, and if it’s not Boo G.U. is working with, it has to be ‘The Voice of Deep’ Cei-Bei. Touché.
The Soul Survivors products have the G.U. touch, that’s for sure, but taken on the whole, more sound like the clubby American House track. Which makes them the excellent opportunity to help you imagine a sweaty night at some kinky place in Chicago. When pumpin’ bass joins the streamin’ grooves, then all what you need to blow the place, is a cheering crowd, fired up by some typical gay-coloured vocals. G.U. takes care of the music, Cei-Bei is calling every major town in the States to join the Deep House Movement, (New York : get down, San Francisco : scream for more…etc.), and the crowd…is you.
The vocal-thing really shows the roots of this music. One night, I heard Sister Sledge on some radio station and I immediately had to think about Cei-Bei screaming on top of G.U.’s funky melodies. Too bad there is no such thing as a car-stereo equipped with a turntable…
Oh yes, the other tracks : ‘Soul Power’ has no Cei-Bei vocals, so it’s carte blanche for G.U. Give’em hell, Glenn ! ‘Sickness of our People’ contains some of those cool Black-Man-stand-up-alike samples which you find frequently in Abacus tracks (for the unknown : another decent Deep House artist who is also approved by the Freestyle team). tracks:

- Beyond the Sun
Now, this is a special record for many reasons: First of all this must be one of the very first Glenn Underground productions and certainly is the earliest release we've got in our possesion. Second of all this is the only release on Chicago Underground records and the only release we know of that was co-produced with legendary Chicago Producer Steve Poindexter and also the only one with Craig Gilliam for that matter. You'll understand this is record is very hard to find and we had a very tough time finding a copy!
Another special thing about this record is the fact that this contains the original release of the track "Entercourse of the New Age", which later also became available on the Atmosfear album. This track is a milestone in jazzy chicago-house and marked the beginning of a long list of classic GU releases. All 5 tracks have the typical old-skool sound but they are somewhat more monotonous and do not reach the same level in dreamy atmosphere and complex structure as "Entercourse of the New Age" or "Beyond the Sun".
