![]() Equanim Instrumental Language Balanced Records CD 2002 |
The first album on the Balanced label after their debut, the compilation called
Northern Faction Vol 1, promised to be pretty good. My favorite tracks on the sampler where those from Sohcathoa and Equanim, so it's nice to see one of them had the possibility to present his productions on a full-length release. Warm and eclectic would probably be a good way to describe the music captured on this disc. Warmth because the sound is very organic and acoustic, eclectic because of the many influences in the tracks themselves and the variations troughout the album. Still, you get the feeling it all fits together, there are no interruptions in the flow so to say. Dub, Future-Jazz, Acid-Jazz, Atmospheric Jungle, Nu-Jazz, World Music, ... It's all mangled into a melting-pot of smokey downtempo tunes with a spacey touch now and then. And the compositions, with nifty little details, are tops. The whole thing is pretty laidback, but the last couple of tracks shift down to an even more chilled tempo. These slow jazz-scapes make you feel all fuzzy inside and serve as a perfect ending to an enjoyable album. Say Vegin |
