![]() Dissent Bleeding Together Wide Hive CD 2002 |
Dissent's second album on Wide Hive records is a very eclectic release. Consider it a more or less contemporary version of what labels like Dorado or Ninja Tune were doing during the mid 90s. Apart from the traditional bass, guitar and drums many different instruments like flute, congas, violin and keyboards appear throughout the album, not forgetting the beautiful voice of Nathalie Sanchez serves as the cherry on the pie. How can you not like the summery vibe of "Shine" with those subtle latin sounds or "Rudy" a downtempo groove combined with soothing vocals and moogs? And then we haven't even mentioned the superb bassline in "Bleeding Together" that helps to support the funky chants plus the closing track "Loop Din" with it's sultry atmosphere and ever so soulful keyboards. The influences are countless: Jazz-Funk, World, Trip-Hop, Rare-Groove, ... it's all in there and Gregory Howe has managed to produce a cohesive album with a lot of creativity and a vintage organic sound. Say Vegin Thanks to Ryan Romana at Wide Hive Records. |
