![]() Various Co-Operation Session II COOP Records (GoyaMusic) CD/LP 2002 |
The Co-Op night is a concept for parties that are
regularly held on Sunday nights in London. Because of various reasons
the place had to shut down some time ago, but they're now kind of
travelling between different venues. This is one of the very first
organisations that is almost uniquely focused on bringing Broken Beat
(A fairly new style of fresh and eclectic music originated in
West-London and pushed forward by labels such as People, 2000 Black,
Main Squeeze, Laws Of Motion, ...). This compilation tries to gather
tracks that represent the atmosphere and sound that are so typical for
it. A lot of the important artists are featured here: - Dego & IG Culture team up as Da One Away for the soulful theme track "Co-Op Thing". - Jessica Lauren gives a magical touch to Big Bang's funky "Lady" with her impressive keyboard work. - Fini Dolo delivers an Afro-Beat influenced track with Sean Kahn (SK Radicals) on saxophone adding a jazzy touch. - Blakai (Kaidi Tatham & Mark Force) get their inspiration from drum 'n bass for "The King is Dead, long Live the King". - Deep-House gets the breakbeat treatment from Stephane Attias with "Daydreaming". - Seiji's contribution "Back 'n Forth" as Opaque dives into the spacey technoid oriented sides. Now let me clear things up by saying these series are not the end-all be-all of broken beat, there are some great must-have tracks on it, but some fairly mediocre ones too. It does provide good value for money to fans because the tracks are all exclusive and a perfect introduction to newcomers because the various mutations in Broken Beat are all present. Say Vegin |
