KOOP
Waltz for KOOP
JCR CD/LP - 2002

KOOP is the latest discovery from Jazzanova Compost Records and it's a very pleasant discovery. KOOP is a cooperation, hence the name, between two guys from Sweden who produce jazz music with the help of many guest musicians and vocalists.

They seem to know how to make accessible and unpretentious tracks without sounding cheap. The melancholic, almost romantic, lyrics and the acoustic 1950s jazz sound in combination with subtle electronic effects form an exceptional contemporary variant to modern jazz music.
KOOPs music is airy and refreshing like a light summer breeze on a hot sunny afternoon.

I've had the pleasure of seeing them perform live a couple of weeks ago, they gave a very nice performance with a funny warm-up by natural-born entertainer Earl Zinger (who also sings on one of the tracks on the album). Specially the phenomenal vibes man (still wondering how he could play like that with only two hands) and the talented female vocalist Yukimi Nagano made a lasting impression as did the great album Waltz for KOOP ...
