Charly McLion
The Nature of the Universe
1xCD Kingfisher 002 (2001)
This album is the second release by a new label called Kingfisher. This label does not focus on a specific musical genre or style but rather on putting out interesting music in general. The kingfisher bird symbolises this goal.

Charly McLion has over 30 years of experience with producing and playing instruments. He was mainly doing acoustic folk and blues oriented music, but in the nineties he started experimenting with ambient music by adding electronic instruments.
All this lead to the release of a very accessible album, filled with warm and organic chill-out music. Very eclectic as a whole, creating soothing rhythms, rich textures and dreamy melodies by using a wide range of instruments. Drums, piano, flute, keyboards, strings, samples, all computer generated except the electrical or acoustic guitar and every single one has a crysal-clear production quality.

The sound is pretty similar to that of José Padilla and his earlier Café del Mar compilations, with it's broad influences from dub, new-age, downtempo, guitar-ambient ... Excellent easy-listening soundtrack to some early sundaymorning relaxation.

Thanks to Walter Holl at Kingfisher for introducing me to the music of Charly Mclion!
