Some very nice music has been released on the Morr Music label lately, it was only a matter of time before something appeared on the FreestyleGrooves website. I've picked out the album by Wechsel Garland because it just felt like this was something special and maybe you'll feel that way too afther you've read my review: I'm convinced that it's not very easy to find ambient music in the literal meaning of the word "Ambient". To me, real ambient has to fill up the empty space in the room, it has to be more than just sounds coming out of my speakers. It has to be stirring and create a virtual world on it's own, a world which appears when the record starts and disappears when the record stops. Most music referred to as ambient are just slow chill-out beats or meaningless soundscapes. These productions by Wechsel Garland definitely fall into the first category, they are something different, something unheard ... maybe they shouldn't be described as ambient music at all, maybe this is something extraordinary, maybe ... I'm not making things clear am I? Ten tracks with a soothe atmosphere and slow melodies. Ten tracks played with acoustic instruments, giving it warmth as wel as digital synths and samples, giving it a spacey influence. Ten tracks with soft baselines and organic drums, but without real rhyhtms, without conventional structures. While this all sounds pretty abstract, the music itself is easy to listen to and has a very restfull, relaxing mood. Maybe it's experimental jazz music, maybe it's classical music, maybe, maybe it's nu-future-retro-post-something ... This still doesn't make any sense huh? Let's just say this is really something!
