At first this album was only released as a CD-r in very limited quantities, but lucky for us Pitchcadet decided to bring a re-issue on vinyl which is a little less hard to find, relatively speaking of course. Thanks go out again to
Stereophonic in Antwerp for being the only shop in Belgium to have this record in stock! Roman Belousov, the real name of Novel 23, lives in Moscow and is known to posses quite a nice collection of rare old Russian synths. I bet those Russian synthesizer developers had never imagined their products would be used to create this kind of music. Now what's so special about this album to make it stand out between the heaps of electronica/IDM records that have been released last year? It's not that there's anything here you haven't heard before. It's just that Novel 23 manages to create such a nice atmosphere with these gentle, soothing melodies. The combination with the simple rhythmic structures underneath and old-skool electro beats makes this an unforgetable journey trough the world of retro-futurism. These sounds take you back to your childhood, when life seemed carefree and you still had idealistic dreams about the future. Say Vegin jan/2001 |
