Cottage Industries
a Neo Ouija compilation
various artists
1xCD Neo Ouija  04
The artists currently connected to Lee Norris' Neo Ouija record label have been working hard in their home studios lately. So along comes the result of their "Cottage Industries" in the form of the first Neo Ouija compilation CD.
After only 3 releases, this label has already been noticed by many as an outlet for decent electronics, not in the least provoked by the excellent joint venture of Metamatics & Clatterbox: Project Unison.
Lee Norris is best known for his productions as Metamatics which is strangly enough not featured on this CD. Besides being credited for selecting the tracks he only appears as co-producer for the "cool dry places" track by Consumer Durable

Anyway, enough small-talk for now, let's tell something about the most important part: what's the music like?
I think this description pretty much covers it: a mixture of old-skool IDM with new-skool electronica. Which basicly results in melancholic melodies, clearly influenced by the early 90s ambient-house scene. These are supported by inventive rhythmic structures and downtempo beats which seem to be influenced by late 80s electro and the nostalgica for retro-videogames soundtracks.

Nothing really revolutionary, but solid quality productions by a broad range of artists. Going from established names like Clatterbox or Hermann And Kleine to recently discovered names such as Bauri, Geiom or Plod and even completely new ones like Quinoline Yellow, Yunx or Penfold Plum
All together 12 very enjoyable tracks, exclusive to this compilation, that enable us to form a picture of what road this label will walk music-wise in the near future.
