![]() Universal Principles Inspiration & Light 1x CD Soma |
We all know the Soma label for some time now for their tech and techhouse
releases, but be in for a nice surprise with the Inspiration & Light album
by Universal Principles. Just released, but we almost immediately consider
to declare this album essential for 2000. Admitting the cover looks somewhat cheap, the music offers one great warm vibe. The mood of the album is mostly deep acid jazz grooves, full of acoustic instruments like flutes, horn, rhodes, drums, diferent guitars etc.. All tracks are one for one well worked out, with lots of attention to detail, variation and jazzy elements, giving the complete album a very consistent listening experience. Tracks that absolutely stand out are : "Latin Stroll" with a typical bossa rythm, jazzy piano and soft & nice female chants. "Future Manifesto" has an ultradeep warm synth bassline, wicked jazzy keys on top and spacey synth effects later, creating a superb atmospheric mood. Further, we'd like to bring "Don 's different ducks" to your attantion. It's a soft chilly deep experience, lounge at its best, with a central breakbeat theme embedded in a deep synth textures and soft keys. Also remarkable is the "Voodoo Sun" track of which you'll immediately say I have heard something similar before and yes, it's bassline is surprisingly close to Ingram's seventies track "Mi Sabrina Tequana" but has enough new elements to remain interesting. Clearly, Stuart McMillan, Glenn Gibson and Nick Peacock of Universal Principles have produced a very noteworthy album that will provide us with lots of hours of pure listening pleasure. ez june/2000 |
