Incognito
Jazzfunk
1x CD Ensign Records
The JazzFunk album is a rerelease of Incognito tracks dating back 1980 and 1981. While Incognito has been most attributed to the debut of Acid Jazz scene in the early nineties, these rereleases put a completely different light on the artist J.P. Mauninck. And what a light ! ... We have known Incognito for a long time as a strange mixture of pure deep music and compromises to easier lighter music for the big markets. With this JazzFunk album, we're into the first category. "Parisienne Girl" is a superb jazzfunk anthem with spacey synths and vocals, accentuated bassguitar and funky percussion. More goes with "Summer's Ended", adding very heavy guitar licks and airy flutes. "Shine On" drives up the tempo, adds moogs to the cocktail and these heavy funky guitars again. The first 3 tracks thus immediately throw pure classy jazzfunk in your ears for your listening pleasure. Superb this is ! "Wake up city" explores more into easy jazzy moody grooves. Ideal for these lazy hazy sunny summer sunday mornings ! More space disco moog vibes and grooves are offered with "Interferences". Where the first part of the album is an entirely instrumental experience, the second part sets of with "Incognito" for more vocal stuff. "The smile of a child" and "Chase the clouds away" go into the direction of smooth jazz soulfunk. Not really spectacular tracks, just clean, classy and well constructed music. It's 2 more pure chill jazzfunk outfits "Walking on wheels" and "Sunburn" that are offering the more interesting stuff. Ain't no dancefloor stuff, but lounging dream jazzy grooves, with all the typical ingredients of funky bassline, jazzy melody, spacey keyboards, moody saxophone. It's clear that for any Incognito fan, this album stands out !
Definetely well worth adding to your music collection when you're into these chilly jazzfunk vibes !
