AfroJazzFunk vol 1 & 2
Les Disques Superclasse
Get your afro head out and let the drums roll, because it's time for
wicked tunez and groovez. AfroJazzFunk offers 2 CD's packed with lots of fine seventies jazzfunk tracks. Smokey indeed, you'll like
them, that's guaranteed. The overall style of the compilations is varying between a smoother Herbie Hancock album and more uptempo
tracks a la Pulp Fusion. Thus, plenty of acoustic drums, jazzy keys, funky horns and wild percussion. We especially liked :
The Lafayette Afro Rock Band : Red Match Box
- superb groovy pure seventies jazzfunk
Ice : M.F. Grayson
- Produced by Larry Young and offering incredible trumpet arrangements
Noel Mc Ghie & Space Spies : Mademoiselle Tuloch
- 100% seventies smokin fusion stuff a gogo
J.M. Tim & Foty : Duala by night
- Probably one of the best tracks, bass guitar driven jazzfunk slightly
hinting at the emerging end of seventies space disco scene
Pep's : Tchout'se
-The kind of music making you say WOW, yes, it's that great phonky rythm
Salinas : Like a rainy night
- Soft, sweet and smooth as silk, downtempo jazzfusion
With the recent flood of seventies compilations, often quickly thrown together to cash in on the trends, we tend to say, enough is
enough with milking this musical style, but for AfroJazzFunk we're happy to make an exception. It's pure, it's quality, it's original
and classy, in short, it's a Freestyle recommendation !
