![]() V.A. Winter chill Hedkandi Records |
With the lack of original creative uptempo music these days, everybody seems to be
lounging and chilling away. Store shelve space is getting more and more occupied
with lounge here and lounge there CDs as every record label that respects itself
releases compilations a gogo. This leaves us more and more with the difficult task
of selecting the cream of the crop. Winter Chill on HedKandi Records belongs to
the first category. This compilation is a unique collection of mostly vocal lounge
tracks, blending elements of jazz, soul, hiphop, funk and triphop. Delicious vibes
from well known artists are presented, such as Nightmares On Wax, Wiseguys,
Mr. Scruff, A man called Adam and Omni Trio. But also the less known artists bring
interesting stuff here. To name a few, there is Peshey and "Pacific" for trippy keys
on smooth vibes, excellent soft female vocals set the mood on AfterLife and "Breather"
and Anthea with "Only one". The Wiseguys create an entirely different but nevertheless
lounging atmosphere with trippy hiphop on "We be the crew". But there is more.
A man called Adam brings one of the better tracks with "Wouldn't she", a slow soulfull
funky r'n'b track with heavy bassguitar licks. The Nighthawks bring the mood of a
jazzclub at night with warm trumpet sounds embedded in atmospheric vibes.
Morcheeba and "Moog Island" is quite a different beast bringing exotic scenery right
into your bedroom. And then, one more track we'd like to present and which is without
a doubt the most breathtaking and mindblowing track of this compilation. 45Dip and
"Searching for Marden Hill" is my favourite pick of Winter Chill. It offers spacey
synth keys and moogs embedded in warm rumbling vibes and on top vocoder voices.
Simply stunning classy music and very higly recommended! Get it while you can, this double CD package is well worth every penny you pay for it. Big thumbs up for Hed Kandi for a superb selection. We can't wait for more of this! ez feb/2000 |
