![]() Faith Massive Visions 1xCD N Soul |
The thing I've always liked about Jungle music was the special atmosphere created by the polyrhytmic beats, deep basslines and the massive amount of jazz ... One of my all time favorites is "Universal Love" by 4 HERO, but that was 1995 this is 2000! Many things have happened since then, the popularization and succes of the dark and monotonous forms of drum 'n bass didn't do it much good. You have to be very selective and search through vast amounts of uninspired and boring releases if you want to discover real good tracks! Once in a while though, something excellent crosses your path and so it happened with this album from Faith Massive. Influenced by the sound of labels like Good Looking and Moving Shadow, this man created 10 drum 'n bass tracks with a spirit and a soul. The first is called "Time Travelling" and it's a good example of what you can expect for the rest of the album. The main ingredients are mellow rhythms mixed with dreamy melodies. In "Set Free" crystal clear vocals and lightweight rhythms create very enjoyable optimistic drum'n bass. Voices in the background and spacey instrumentation make "This Life" one of the most atmospheric tracks. There's also some downbeat on the album, like the melancholic chill-out of "Driftin' West" or the jazzy breakbeats of "Song For Laurie" and last but not least "Shelter" with great female vocals. "Essence of Being" is the only exception, that track is quite a bit rougher than the rest and features very trancey synths, but it's pretty good nonetheless! Recommended to all those who like their music fresh, uncomplicated and original. Say Vegin jan/2000 |
