![]() Afro-Mystik Future Tropic 2xLP : Om-records |
Diversity abundance ! That's what the Future Tropic album by Afro-Mystik is all about. Ingredients are : hiphop, acid jazz, synthfunk, jazzhouse, groove, dub, soundscapes, R&B, garage, latin, bossa nova.. and even with so many elements this coctail tastes delicious ! The variations make this double album a never boring experience. But now in more detail : "South", "Ritual De Rua" & "Devious Rythms" are straight infectious latin jazzgrooves. Delicate irrestible congas create an instant sunny brazilian feeling into your room. "Shoplift the future" and "Trivia Terrorist" explore into atmospheric hiphop/rap sounds. "Don't stop dreaming" offers classy deep garagehouse. Afro Mystik also explores into R&B with "Move it out". Ok, so far so good, all nice and well done and enjoyable, now for the track that will blow your mind : "Inner space sonnata" Wow, this is a super warm eighties synthfunk sound, resembling a little bit the early House of 909 stuff, but so much warmer and so much more funky & jazzy. We also hear the tickling synth sounds used before by genious Nick Martinelli but at the same time the driving synth rythms like only Paul Hardcastle could play them in his better early eighties work. The title track "Futur tropic" features plenty of break beats, atmospheric chants in an overal latin rythm and sound. Finally, there is the chillout "Urban euphoric" with a trance touch that reminds us of the better sounds of the 93-94 period. Yes, you guessed it, another great album we won't too easily forget as one of the better releases of 1999. ez dec/99 |
