funk funk funk (and a bit of electro) chart
1. Playtime : 10 pure 70s jazzfunk tracks : superclasse
Nice collection of rather rare jazfunk tracks. The selection features stuff that goes from cheesy to disco-a-like. The "dance of the honey-bee and the funky fly" gets the prize of funkiest title while Aquarian Dream "You're a star" is the definite essential on this compilation.
2. One Way :  lady : MCA
Please Mr. Groove. Won't you come back? (to the new millenium please)
3. Beige : non-profit 12" : Beige
Clear meets Lackluster. Funk oozes out of this distorted electro. When the sound of a rubber duck replaces the saxophone you know something weird is going on.
4. The Blackbyrds : better days : Fantasy
Nice production by professor Donald Byrd and his students. "What's on your mind" sounds a bit like Byrd's own funk-essentials like "Change". "Don't know what to say" is classic on this album. If you ever don't know what to say - shut up and listen!
5. Tom Browne : thighs grip : Arista
Browne does more than funkin' for jamaica. He gets touchy with the girls in this groovy early 80s production. Dave Grusin provides the nice keys to go with Browne's might trumpet.

Vinyl fresh from the shops (not necessarily fresh from the vinyl cutters!)
1)Brainstorm : Journey To The Light(Danny Krivit re-edit series) / Strut
Couldn't get this one out of my mind last month, very funky with lots of soul, on the B side a mediocre Isaac Hayes cut.
2)Lamont Dozier : Going Back To My Roots / Castle Music
Heard this one for the first time in a set of Dj Spectron (Switzerland),it made me say:"fuck Oddysey!" this version has much more feeling in it and is also musically superior, the outro is also very nice with African chanting.
3)Mayaku : Nubian Nights / Wha?
The latest by Antwerp superheroes Mayaku (Marius,Jan,Koen) 2 great groovy tracks + bonus beats, tip!
4)Marshall Jefferson : Move Your Body / Simply12
Classic of classics! I had a good laugh watching Marshall explain this was the house music anthem back in the days, i saw it in the a new tv program named "pump up the volume" (Ch4 uk) about the history of house, you can dload it from the deephousepage forum or click <http://deephousepage.com/pumpupthevolume.ram> to see it now.
5)Dimitri Vossen : Sunny Meadows / Wha?
Very versatile Ep by Dimitri of oase de pleasure,4 funky tracks,my favourite 1 is "roller boogie at troca king's". Watch this guy!
6)Nick Holder : Summer Daze / NRK
Discovered this one while listening to one of Sven Van Hees' Dj sets,it's a very uplifting mellow track,if you could put a hot summer evening on vinyl this would be it.
7)Atjazz : It's Complete Part1 / Mantis Recordings
Chilled out jazzy broken beats,sssswwweeeeett.
8)ADNY & The persuader : Quarter Of A Century part 2/3 / Earthtones
Cool deeeephouse with a techy edge, just the way i like 'em.
9)Hanna : Te Deum EP / Silver Network
Yummy deep mellow grooves.
10)Jon Cutler Feat. E-Man : It's Yours / Chez
The catchy groove and E-man's cool vocals make this one "the" clubhit of the past few months,ok maybe the 2nd clubhit, after finally :) but nevertheless lots and lots of bootyshaking has been done on this track!
Albums of the month
Little Louie Vega : Mad Styles And Crazy Visions / BBE
Maybe not one of the newest compilations/mixcds around but most certainely one of the best! the track selection is simply amazing, there's my beat by blaze, dancing in outer space by atmosfear; the player by first choice, life is changing by Cricco Castelli and much more, essential in every cd collection.
Cricco Castelli : Streetlife / Hiptonic
Ok,there might be a few tracks on it of lesser quality but as a whole this cd is one big party from start to end.
Funky Flashback
Roy Ayers : Coffy / Polydor (1973)
Forget shaft! this soundtrack is blaxploitation at it's best...coffy is the color, coffy is the color, coffy is the color of your skin, coffy is the world you live in...coffy is feelin' something deep coffeeeeeeeey
Dexter Wansel : Life On Mars/The Sweetest Pain / Philadelphia International (1976)
2 killers!
