Maxi & EP
- Tim Tetlow : cyrenic / and god created manchester : planet mu
from the limited 7" series, one gentle piano ambient and one distorted IDM mayhem track
- Moss : Moth : Pork
The great, but so often overlooked, sound of pork: blunted and smokey
- Minotaur Shock : Motoring Britain Remix EP : melodic 45
Strange combination of chilled electronica and melancholic post-rock
- Holland Tunnel Project : The Second Trip : Liquid
Instrumental hip-hop breakbeats with a touch of acid-jazz smoothness
- The Tenth Planet : Below the Event Horizon : CDr (Promo)
Four atmospheric ambient pieces, brand-new old-skool quality
- Christian Zimmerman : Diary of a Lost Girl : Giant45
This label released only 3 twelves during 3 years, but they're all essential jazzy downtempo material
- Chris Gray : Probe of the Outermental EP : Fragmented
Closest thing I've ever heard to the sound of Glenn Underground! And these are 4 mighty fine deep-house cuts, mid 90s quality. ;-)
- Friend + Dr. Kosmos : Single of the Week : dot
Double 12" filled with deep 'n funky electro reminiscent of the Clear-era. That's no big surprise if you see colaborations with Clatterbox, Daniel Ibbotson and Metamatics.
- Primary Motive : Serve Chilled : Creative Source (Promo)
Jazzy drum'n bass, traditional in sound but high in quality
- Jason Brunton : relativity / divisions : Sirkus
Pretty good afterhours deep-house with crazy moogs
Album
- ISAN : Beautronics : Tugboat
Classic debut album from this duo, mysterious analogue electronics.
- savath+savalas : folk songs for trains, trees and honey : Warp / Hefty
Can't get enough Scott Herren releases. This time he's combined post-rock elements with his trademark glitchy production skills.
- Bullitnuts : Roast : Pork
Classic jazzy stuff from the pork sty
- Various : Volume Transmission Soundtrack Series : Worm Interface
Varied selection of droning ambient with a few electronica elements

SPECTRUM'S FAVES
- Omoamusic Sampler One (12", omoamusic) // Jazzanova: that night/days to come (12", jcr)
***not available yet***mp3-downloadz*** Straight from Detroit comes the new Omoamusic-label from Recloose. The first release is an amazing 3-track sampler with brand new talent from Motor City: Dapp, Marc Alphonse and Ayro. Ultra-deep jazz tunes on da house-tip! Ayro delivers the best of these excellent tracks with 'Let This', an offbeat soul/gospel/house affair and a strong contender for single of the year! Check it out at www.omoamusic.com  and buy straight away! Jazzanova go deep as well with this taster for the new album due for release next year. Both tracks have a deep house vibe and are definitely a whole new approach to the Jazzanova-sound. Plus Vikter Duplaix brings his talent to complete the cake. Breathtaking…
- 4 Hero: Les Fleur / 9 by 9 (2x12", talkin' loud)
Although very similar to the original, Dego and Marc Mac's production talents really make this cover a masterpiece! B-side '9by9' is a vocal drum'n'bass track like only 4 Hero can make them: innovative beats, lush strings and soulful vocals from Imani Uzuri. All very promising for the forthcoming 'Creating Patterns'-album. '9by9' gets soulful treatments on a second 12" from Marcus Intalex & S.T. Files (very funkin' d&b) and Philly's finest King Britt aka Scuba (deep and atmospheric house). Buy or die!
- Herbie Hancock featuring Chaka Khan: the essence (Joe Clausell sacred opus remix) (12", transparent)
Given the chance to remix Herbie Hancock must have been quite an inspiration for Joe Clausell… The 13-minute piece begins as a very deep nuyorican d&b-track that in the second half turns into a spiritual life bomb. Clausell's percussion, jazzguitar-licks, Chaka's vocals and Herbie's piano melt together on a trip to musical heaven. An instant classic! Excellent remixes from LTJ Bukem and DJ Krush are also available.
- Dom Um Romao Remixed (12", head 2 toe)
Latin legend Dom Um goes West-London! This first release on new IRMA-offshoot H2T brings together some of the best producers around to do magical things with Romao's songs. Alex Attias/Mustang, Seiji/Opaque, G-Force and Nubian Mindz provide the beats for these stormers; jazz, technofunk, 2step and lots of broken stuff will damage sound-systems and legs alike. Don't let this catch you sleeping!
- Purveyors of Fine Funk: stigmata jackson (russ gabriel remix) (12", nepenta) // Andy Caldwell: all i need (12", naked music)
Two great house twelves. Dan Curtin purveys some fine funk indeed with this new one. Fierce bassline and very effective piano- and trumpetloops are the main ingredients. However, it's the remix by Russ Gabriel that needs to be heard: jazzy Bugz-style funk with added live vocals, percussion and strings. I like!! Naked Music 17 is yet another quality release for the label. Soulful vocal house in 4 different mixes; 2 for the clubs, a deep down and dirty version plus the refreshing original. Tips!
- Hajime Yoshizawa: endless bow (12", especial) // The Underwolves: remixes (12", jcr)
Always something to look out for and never disappointing: it's new Especial material. After his moody jazz-album Yoshizawa comes with another great Japanese bootyshaker: uptempo, jazzed-up beats and mighty keyboards… oooh baby! Fauna Flash and Jimpster provide good and excellent remixes respectively. Fauna Flash also appear on the new Underwolves remix-package, following the fabulous 'Under your sky'-album. Their 'Timbales Mix' for Studio Brussel-hit "Shaken" is a fine house version in the best Compost tradition - do watch out for repeating yourself guys - but Earthbound's '120 bpm' deep jazz-take on "Bird Song" gets top scores here!
- Domu: up+down (2lp, archive)
After establishing himself as a drum'n'bass producer (Sonar Circle) Dominic Stanton drops his debut album as Domu. He already caught my attention with his Archive 12"'s and his remixes but now he's really shown what he's capable of: making a diverse full lp. Broken technofunk, a slice of hip-hop and nu-soul (with the vocal talent from Valerie Etienne) are on the menu in Domu's world thus creating an abstract atmosphere where it's very enjoyable to wander... Lend this man your ear, he deserves it.
- The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble: the allenko brotherhood ensemble (cd, comet)
Former Fela Kuti drummer TONY ALLEN and his mates get a full cd-release following the 6 limited 12"'s released over the past year or so. Based on drum patterns by Allen, these tracks give some of the key-players in the nujazz-scene the chance to showcase their - already established - talent (Kirk Degiorgio, IG Culture, Cinematic Orchestra, Joakim Lone, Bozoo Bajou, Jeff Sharel to name a few). Picking standout cuts is a tough job because each track has it's own vibe, all feeling very comfortable with Allen's rhythms. Setting high standards once again…
- London Xpress - a selection of rare dance cuts (2lp, nuphonic)
At the 2001 Muzik Magazine Awards Nuphonic's "London Xpress" was voted Best Radio Show and now it's a very fine and diverse album too! A collection of rarities or previously unreleased and exclusive tracks from the likes of Björk, Coldcut, Groove Armada, Faze Action, David Holmes and Red Snapper who arguably deliver the best track: the very house-inspired "Dnipro". Tune in to London Xpress every Sunday from 1600 to 1800 GMT on http://www.xfm.co.uk  or for more info go to http://www.nuphonic.co.uk
