| 1. Intuït
: supersempft baby : Compost 'De-focus' type eletronics with funky vocoder voices and the greasy Compost touch. Nice one. 2. Ursula Rucker : supa sista : U-Love Maybe playing these two records in a row would be a bit too much of the same, but the funky music and heavenly voice sure make for a nice combination. Maybe she just reminds me of Dana Bryant :) 3. Solid State : the state of grace : Creative Source I don't buy many D 'n B releases. In fact, I never buy any D 'n B releases. Except for those by Solid State. I buy'em all. Seldom I've seen one group standing so high above the pack of standard music, but Solid State is about the only name that justifies having a D 'n B section in your local record shop... |

| The "Return To Jazz 'caus the Winter's coming" section | |
| 1. Miles
Davis : highlights from the plugged nickel 6 tracks. Each one over 10min. Each one live. Each one honest, in-dark jazz. Each one Miles Davis. Each one a trip of its own. 2. Roy Ayers : virgo vibes/daddy bug : Atlantic The earliest Roy Ayers recordings, revealing the talent that has rocked the jazz-funk world for over 30 years now. Although the juicy lyrics are absent in this jazzy collection, his talent with the vibraphone makes these albums essential, not to mention the assistance of Herbie Hancock. 3. Blue Note artists : blue funk : Blue Note very very Blue Note :) |

| SPECTRUM'S FAVES | |
| - Ursula Rucker: supa sista (cd, !k7) Jazz-headz around the globe have been eagerly waiting for this album. Straight from Philly comes a stunningly beautiful, socio-cultural masterpiece of poetry and nu-jazz! After collaborations with Josh Wink, the Roots, King Britt, Jazzanova and 4 hero, members of the Cosmic Lounge deliver the beats on her debut album, and so does King Britt himself. But in my opinion, the 2 tracks produced by 4 hero, 'what??!!' and '7', really stand out above all the rest. Overall, a totally essential debut album!! (cd-version includes full lyrics) - Homecookin': do what u wanna (2lp, sole music) / Afro Force: goza (12", 2000 black) The Bugz in the @ttic continue their string of quality releases with the Homecookin' album, the pseudonym of Paul "Seiji" Dolby. Deep house is the key word with - again - top class broken jazz-funk. Mark de Clive-Lowe is on the rhodes, Izzi and Marcus Begg are on vocals and off course my man Kaidi Tatham is doing his writing/producing/persussion/flute/keys-thing. Tatham also composed the new 2000 black release, a G-force-and Afronaught-production which also featured on the "Phuturistic Dancin'"-compilation. Again two essential releases from the Bugz. - Mr. Hermano: free as the moring sun (2lp, disorient/mr bongo) Laws of Motion-labelboss and former Marlena Shaw-drummer join forces on the second Mr. Hermano album. Sweet and beautiful bossa nova and latin jazzdance. Favourites are the love-bossa "capoeira love affair" and "suco", a jazzdance-affair which will move dancefloors from tokyo to berlin. Yummie ! - Björk: Vespertine (cd, one little indian) In her own words: 'think drinking a hot chocolate milk in your sofa on a cold winternight'. Indeed Iceland's most talented performer has delivered a very introvert 5th album which she presented overwhelmingly beautiful in Brussels last week. A choir from Greenland, a 40 piece orchestra and Matmos joined her for a stunning concert. She's up there with the big ones now… (if she wasn't already). - Amalgamation of Soundz: alone / Kyoto Jazz Massive: substream / Intuit: a new beginning (12", compost) / Victor Davies: sound of the samba (12", jcr) After their stunning "one hundred" compilation, Compost records have a heavy release-schedule coming up in the next couple of months. First up are 3 new 12"'s. Amalgamation of Soundz disappoint a bit unfortunately with their balearic-like house tune "alone", although the b-side is much better (but was also featured on the compilation). Much better sounds come from Kyoto Jazz Massive, doing what they do best: jazz-dance house music of high quality. Extra treat on this 12" is the very good remix of now-classic "eclipse" by Afronaught. Top scores however, go to Intuit from Freiburg who already released on compost as Supersempft. 4 nu-jazz/nova bossa tracks that stand out of the pack! Keep your eye on these guys. Jazzanova Compost Records are set to release Victor Davies' self-entitled debut album next month and if the single is anything to go by, this could be big! Think Terry Callier jamming with João Gilberto: soul, folk, jazz and samba in one song. Amazing… - Plutonia: what u know / forever (opaque remix) (12", visions) / Beatless: life mirrors / love from the sun (12", ubiquity) Two times Alex Attias. First with Dego on his own Visions-imprint. "What u know" is heavy, vocal broken beat bizniz. I really like this! Seiji delivers a much-hyped remix of the massive "Forever"-tune but i believe he deserves more credit for his "life mirrors"-remix. Beatless is Attias with Talkin' Loud-labelboss Paul Martin. Beatless do electronic nu-soul (remember spacek ?) and they do it damn good. Album coming soon. |

| Summer catch-up | |
| Osunlade's 'paradigm'-album for Soul Jazz Records is IT if you're into deep nuyorican house music with roots in african-american culture. Dig! <> Also just out is 'bienvenida' from french wizkid Alexis Mauri aka Alexkid (f comm.) with collaborations from Dorfmeister, Ursula Rucker and 'nuff live musicians. Very nice. <> The long-awaited second At Jazz lp is also out on mantis and getting wild reviews but i haven't been able to catch it yet. Hopefully a full report next month… Look out for At Jazz-remixes poppin' up everywhere though and new releases on Mantis. Magic Number's 'that day' is one of the latest: deep house deluxe that comes with a splendid waiwan-remix. <> More live deep house biz coming from Anthony Nicholson as Space 7 on clauraudience. 'Maximus (free soul movement)' is heavenly music! The man is a genius… <> Kirk Degiorgio takes time between As One- and Off World-albums to release Nairobi: detroit techno at it's best, with a free carl craig remix! <> Flanger and Yukihiro Fukutomi deliver wicked nu-jazz remixes for Gak Sato ('tangram' on temposphere). <> Hiphouse is ready for a revival! Check 'ataride' from Wagon Christ on ninja tune. Yeah-woow! <> Finally, Gert Keunen (really!) releases some mad latin beats on downsall plastics as Briskey. After a wild remix for Groove Armada, his 'lovelier without make-up' ep will blow up every party. A job very well done! | |
