- Prefuse 73 : Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives : Warp Right when you where thinking hip-hop would die a slow death on MTV, here comes an underground revelation! Scott Herren again, responsible for taking hip-hop and electronica to another level. - Pub : Do you ever regret pantomime? : Ampoule What do you need for a good chill? Dimmed lights, lazy mood, nice dreamy music to enhance the atmosphere. We've already got the music ... what are you waiting for? - Weekend Guitar Trio : Animotion : Beg-The-Bug Strange experiments with ambient guitar music. Sort of post-rock, blues, traditional music influenced. - Chris Clark : Clarence Park : Warp Rather noisy and harsh electronics, but don't miss out on the great "Lord of the Dance" track. - Niobe : Radioersatz : Tomlab Ever wondered what 1940s pop music would have sounded like if they had samplers and synths? Niobe might have the answer to that. |

- Earth Wind & Fire : All 'n All : CBS 1979 Features the slick disco-funk cut "Runnin", Essential! - Goody Goody : #1 Dee Jay : Atlantic 1978 GU knows his roots and proved it by using samples from the killer track "It looks like love" on this album by Vince Montana, when he created his deep-house classic "Jaz Love #2". |

bodily functions : !K7 If only I could explain what special feelings this album awakens...but I can't. Go check it out. Sir Piers & Si Ashton feat. A Tribe Called Quest : bonita applebum 'curious' vocal : Promo Amazingly swinging remake of the Tribe's track. Not just nicely blended-in smooth vocals, but good b-line and instrumentals too. Hip-wiggling enthousiasm. Essential Soul feat. Rob Jones : come on (frankie feliciano instrumental) : Wave A slick GU production but I've gotta admit, the frankie feliciano version is the deepest...sorry glenn, you're still the man! Nicola Conte & Gianluca Petrella : new standards : Schema Live instruments, a very sweaty rythm and moving bass. It's cliché but they do it at least as good as the people from Chili Funk who are by all means experts in that area. Street Corner Symphony : memories of aphrodite : Session Well it doesn't blow away their superb album from back in 1998, but it has that supa funky touch again, no doubt the live bass has something to do with that. |

: do it to the music (dub) : West End 1982 Rare and delicious discofunk from the vaults of Nick Martinelli... Herbie Hancock : man-child : CBS 1975 I couldn't just let this one lie there. From the plenty sampled "Hang up your hang ups", the entrancing "Bubbles" to the raw bass of "the trailor". A classic album, much like any album by Herbie from 1975-1982. Headhunters : straight from the gate : Arista 1975 Herbie Hancocks jazzfunk band crank it up in this 1975 album full of those great slow funk experiments. "God made me funky" takes 10 minutes to really open up and even features... The Pointer Sisters! Willie Bobo : hell of an act to follow : CBS 1978 The timbales has produced tons of latin jazz albums over his lifetime that can be found in jazz sections all over the place, but just try to find just this one... Why would you do that you ask? Well, the fact that this album is more funky than all others -produced by Wayne Henderson-is one. And the killer track "Always there" -later remade by Ronnie Laws and *sigh* Incognite* is another. Tangerine Dream : rubycon : Virgin 1975 "The name to this album was inspired by a quote from Caesar and the album follows in the footsteps of the extremly successful recording Phaedra."(from the official site www.tadream.de) A TA production, true to its heritage, I'd say. |
