| 1. Sadao Watanabe live at De Werf Brugge Unforgetable great live jazzfunk experience. Proves once more what real music artists are about. 2. Kyoto Jazz Massive at Bxl Finally a deejay duo that doesn't collapse for cheap techhouse kickdrum dancefloor pressure but carefully blends deep funky, jazzy and garage house tracks. 3. St. Germain live at Lille Ludovic and his band proved they for sure have something more to offer than studio productions during this live concert. |

| full titles this month since all records were enjoyed in one big listening experience with speakers standing on my nighttable... 1. Scotch & Sofa : Various Artists : blue note Okay, old-skool tracks. But the compilation is new, okay... I thought : let's listen to this track to track and get a good view of decent jazz lounging à la blue note. Well, I remember the first track is from 3 sounds live at the cafe bohemia or something and further on...nothing but eternal (+/- 74 minutes) bliss. Mega mega atmosphere. (see review) 2. Leggo Beast : from here to g : Pork From electro to jazz : a small step for mankind but a tricky one. This pork-artist (half of the bullitnuts) takes this step the way it should be : crossing all styles and waggling on like a duck on dope, it sounds original, once again. (see review) 3. Xavier Fischer Trio : II : unique More jazz, more jazz... sometimes the tracks are more hectic and jazz-funkier so that it's not one straight line to fantasy like the blue note ensemble, but it's to keep things interesting, right ! Classy. (see review) 4. Nu Spirit Helsinki : montana roha jazz ep : JCR Having released on guidance this finnish jazz collective brings three extremely lazy tracks, having little to do with the recent hyped sound of jazzanova. Effective chillin'. |
|
| raregroove | |
| Fatback :
UFO (Unidentified funking object) : Spring 1983 The tweakin' soundz and deep astronauts voice immediately remind me of the funky obscurity and cross-over character of 'Is this the future'. Somehow, between all the filosofical statements of magnificent space-view the man starts talking about his love for girls and I mean all kinds of girls...it's a Fatback all'right |

| 1) Classen Collective : Close to greatness / JCR Indeed very close to greatness! ,there's 3 mixes : the deep joy mix ,which has a lot of percussion sounds in it ,who took away the funk mix ,quite boring imho and the original mix which is my personal favourite ,great buildup and deep funky grooves ,yummy! 2) Erot : Two songs for Annie / Disfunction Tore Kroknes aka Erot is definitely crazy about his Annie ,his music has very complex rhythms.. deep beautiful sounds...one of the most original 12"s i have heard lately!,from Norway of all places ! 3) Flying Disc Federation : Make your shadow smile / Wha? (promo) 4th release on the wha? label ,on the A side there's a killer funky deephouse track with a beautiful soulfull melodical breakdown ...on the B side there's a vocal mix with deep soulfull vocals by ?? (waiting for the official release to find out) and a dub mix that's pretty standard stuff. 4) Projekt:pm : Da ssm files EP / Crucial Spacy deep stuff ,the best track is "all nite jazz". 5) Daniel Ibbotson : Things Change,Sometime soon / Glasgow Underground Bought this one while visiting the enchanted place that is K-town ,some really friendly creatures live there though they have this really funny language ...just kiddin' ,back to bizniz ...there's some relaxed funky melodic deephouse with a happy vibe on this 12". 6) Vick Lavender : p.m. blues EP/ NLC Very hard to go wrong with the NLC label ,and this one was even recommended to me by the freestyle crew ,offcourse i couldn't resist to buy this pearl ...great funky melodical deephouse, Chicago stylee. 7) Trio Delicado : Roomservice / Wha? 3d release on the WGW sublabel ,a very diverse EP...check out the REVIEW! 8) Oshun Flow : Ebony Chick / Absolute Pressure A trip into deepness with beautiful piano riffs & sexy vocals ,4 mixes. 9) Love Rec : First steps (vol.2) / Lupeca Deep loungy stuff from Portugal ,highly recommended ! 10) "Little Louie" Vega feat. Arnold Jarvis : Life Goes On / MAW Soulfull vocal garage, very nice ...the dub mix sucks tho. |

| Idjut Boys : Saturday Nite Live / Nuphonic MixCD from the Idjut Boys ,a superb selection of obscure funk and nuskool deep tracks mixed in a magical way (probably thanks to a whole lot of studio work ! =) ) ,featuring tracks of :femi kuti, syrup, isolée,erot ... A very nice diverse mixalbum, one of my personal favourites. |
|
| Funky Flashback | |
| Tee Scott : Brooklyn express disco mix 69 / BMC (1982) 2 tracks : 69 and change position ,this 12" was produced by Began Cekik and steals the keys and sounds of Jimmy Bo Horne's Spank (not sampled but replayed !!) and takes them way further to create music tailored to suit a dancefloor's needs ...i coincidentally experienced myself last weekend what power this track has on a dancefloor ,went to a discoparty where this track was played ,the crowd went nuts! ...once more the proof that Disco never dies !! ,amen and out ;) |
