Album of the month

- P'Taah : Compressed light : Ubiquity

For the real music collectors a little disappointing as it only offers a

Rebel's quest for old-skool joy in contemporary grooves :
1. Modaji : the latin project : Laws of Motion
Bringing back the awesome 'outboard jeopardy' track, this Modaji EP I definitely had to check ! Lo and behold : it's a tribal-moog ass kicker again ! These guys are so good and so special the only place they belong is on People records.
2. GU : essentials part 3 : Dust Traxx
Mucho samplissimo but great to the bone.
(see review)
3. Dino & Terry : spa : Guidance
Normally I'm not that into Dino & Terry stuff, especially not their garage-like house, but this baby's as smooth as Mark Grant or Boo Williams in his 'duckshit mood'. Guidance keeps setting the norm high, very high.
4. GU : society rules : Guidance
Actually, that's : 'GU rules'
(see review)
5. M.A.W. featuring Jody Watley & Roy Ayers : i love to love : MAW Records
The heavenly voice of J.W. and Roy plays some great vibes. The only thing we need is lots of instrumentals (trombone, saxophone, organ...) and the genius of M.A.W. to make this a very stylish deep house gem. Touching.
6. Dj Food feat. Ken Nordline : the ageing young rebel : Ninja Tune
There is something in that title that sounds very like me (Freestyle inside joke). And just check out some of the lyrics in this track : ' see him running limping blood / something soft is just ahead / he has fallen at her side / she comforts him with kisses / he dreams of suicide. gentle is soooo gentle / grabs the trouble by its root / bandages his stump / cuts off his other foot ' Does that hurt or what ?
Outspan's fat bag of raregroove goodies :
Mandre : mandre/one : Motown
this one's "outer space"...
