Outspan

Rebel's quest for old-skool joy in contemporary grooves :
1. PASCAL : for you : Rotax
Les Disques Rotax are always in for some original grooves. This 'Full Vision' EP is stuffed with slow deephouse, led by sax solos and ingenious synth melody.
2. BOO WILLIAMS : chrissy jazz : Ovum
The Fatman is back. And ready for a new millenium. After the superb track on NLC last month, this 12" kicks ass again. Moogs and smooth bass. Ahhhh...!!!
3. BEANFIELD : the season (swag's vocal mix) : Compost
After the SWAG remix of Groove Collective's 'everything is changing', anything that says SWAG means red alert. This remix of triphop heroes Beanfield sticks it up with some mid-tempo d 'n b-line to accompany light-hearted lounge melodies and some soothing vocals.
4. SOUL BOSSA TRIO vs. JAZZANOVA : words of love (remix) : Bomba
Jazzanova, you know the deal.
5. MAVANALLI PROJECT : memory of you : Toko
The label with the funny japanese cartoon dude as a logo, keeps its high-quality image alive. Nice deep-house.
6. JASK : elements of nature : I-recordings
This ep is far from bad, it's just that it doesn't feature a track that lives up to the expectations that 'eclipse', their deep house/latin jazz bomb track created.
Outspan's fat bag of raregroove goodies :
1. MFSB : mysteries of the world : Philadelphia Int.
Being the original from the Freestyle Theme Song "Free Ton Style" (Dimitri From Paris' exquisite deep house track), the bass in this track is dripping with 20-year old fat.
2. Ju-Par Universal Orchestra : chicago calypso : ?
From the fine jazz-funk compilation 'AfroJazzFunk', the mysterious orchestra has done it again. Both smokey, entrancing and funky, this track is suited for long hours of living room tripping if set to 'repeat'.
3. GreyBoy Allstars : live! : Ubiquity
Triphop dude Greyboy ("Freestylin'" and "Land of the Lost") brings together some fine acid-jazz artists and they jam some old-skool tracks (e.g. the juicy 'Hotdog' by Lou Donaldson) together with some of their own compositions. To be enjoyed in one long flash.
