Allstars on my mind (AcidJazz) The monster track returns on 'Strictly Acid Jazz' ! This perfect mixture of R'n B and funk thrills me time and time again : smooth vocals and decent bass, but most of all : the fantastic composition which keeps the tension up and the groove deep. Essential. 2. The Lionel Moist Sextet chillin' (Beechwood) Another essential on the great 'Strictly Acid Jazz' compilation (=post dated spin-off from the This Is... series by Beechwood). The atmosphere this little gem manages to create is a 100% Sunday laidback experience. The classy British way, that is. 3. Wizards of Ooze big mama (Backbone) "Big momma don't need me, Big Momma is fine. She's a big killer lady, with a big black behind. Big love almighty, and she knows what it is.I would die for a Big Momma Kiss..." (vocals courtesy of Wizards Of Ooze) 4. The S.J.U. K's Jaz Am (Formaldehyd) Boo Williams calls The Team back together for an appetizer before the new GU album really hits our speakers. Tastes good, but also makes me longing for more... |

Mandre light years (opus IV)
(Motown) Obscure space-funk band produces obscure space funk record featuring this excellent obscure space funk track. But I couldn't say what genre it's like. Note that Opus I is another name for the lofty 'Solar Flight' track. Makes you wonder where Opus II and III have gone. They're probably still floating somewhere between Earth and Proxima Centauri. 2. Johhny Hammond ghetto samba (Milestone) More moog madness ! Yes Yes Yezzzzzzz...funk of the fifth dimension rulez again. This former decent jazz-organ player feels at home in the realms of electronica where no boring jazz purist ever dared to set foot. 3. The George Benson Quartet feat. Lonnie Smith the cooker (Columbia) Opening track of his first and much sought after album 'The George Benson Cookbook'. Organ master Lonnie Smith adds his secret Latin ingredient and the result is some very hot jazz soup. Deeee-liciouz! 4. Wah Wah Watson bubbles (Columbia) Alternative version of Herbie Hancock's space track on the 1975 'Man-Child', a true monument of jazzfunk. This version adds more rythmical guitar and is a welcome variation on a track that I've played approximately 874 times since I bought 'Man-Child'. Wah Wah joined Herbie's Headhunters on that other classic album 'Secrets' (1976). By now you should get the picture, right ?! |
